Donations & Loans

BHC Housing's mission is to provide vitally-needed ecological housing at income-based-rents for low income households, helping address economic inequality, and move towards ecological sustainability in Brighton and Hove, we depend on funding from within the community. As a community based organisation, we seek community-funded housing, to avoid the trap of embedding interest in the costs of housing. Banks would be the winners if we borrowed for interest, and the interest would likely be more than the rent we plan to charge, and be subject to interest rate increases, along with interference in our decisions.

The return on community funding is the genuinely affordable rent, ecological improvements, less Housing Benefit/Universal credit needed, a greater chance for tenants to be financially free. Increased spending power will be kept within the city and will help the local economy, rather than rushed off to a private landlord or bank. Stable and affordable housing will help improve mental health and give the opportunity for people to grow and develop new skills, or start new careers, or projects.

With decades of non-stop government failures regarding housing, a local council doing what it can despite being starved of funding, losing housing due to Right to Buy, it's time we helped ourselves. Together, we can make a difference. Many thanks for your help.
