JustGiving fundraiser to buy housing for low rent

The housing affordability crisis continues, worsening with higher interest rates, energy bills up 150%, and wider inflation.

We've had 40 years of governments selling off council housing, allowing many to be let privately, not buying or building enough affordable housing to meet the needs of all, and wasting £100s of billions.

I still feel so lucky, after 15 years of privately renting, to have a council-owned flat. My colleague has rented privately for 12 years, and still resides at the pleasure of landlords and banks. We're aiming to raise £1 million in 1 year to buy the first houses and flats, secured indefinitely for the benefit of local residents and workers.

We know it is difficult for many at the moment. We urge those that can afford something, please help us provide low-rent housing. All rents are re-invested in new or upgraded housing, so your donation will keep on giving and giving.

Current and future generations face ever growing instability, uncertainty, falling wages, rising housing and energy costs. All governments should help secure the basic needs of the people but we can't wait for another 40 years of governmental inaction, whilst the problems get much worse for our kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

After millennia of human development, I really think we should be well beyond the essential stage of sufficiently and affordably heating and housing everyone in society. Sadly, a dangerous few want to waste much labour and many lives on greed and power. We have no choice but to help ourselves.
